OS936-10 Series Ultra-Low Phase Noise OCXO

RFX’s oscillators deliver ultra-low phase noise down to -178 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz

Image of RFX Limited's Ultra-Low Phase Noise OS936-10 Series OCXO RFX’s high-performance OS936-10 series oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) delivers close-in phase noise at 130 dBc/Hz at 10 Hz and far-out phase noise as low as -178 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz. Phase noise in systems is an important parameter. For instance, high-performance radar systems rely on the detection of extremely faint return signals from the target, and the lower the phase noise, the sharper the return and greater the range. Digital systems see the effect of phase noise in the time domain as jitter; the lower the phase noise, the lower the jitter. Finally, communication systems see the effect of phase noise in signal bandwidth; the lower the phase noise, the lower the bandwidth required, which in turn can affect channel width.

Available from 1 MHz to 150 MHz and incorporating a high-performance noise-optimized SC-cut crystal, short-term aging over 30 days is ±0.1 ppb maximum per day while long-term aging is ±50 ppb maximum per year after 30 days of continuous operation. Multiplied versions are available up to 1,000 MHz (see model OS936M-10). With an optimized control and heating circuit design, the OS936-10 can be specified with a temperature stability of ±5 ppb over 0°C to +50°C, ±10 ppb over -20°C to +70°C, or ±20 ppb over -40°C to +70°C.

The OS936-10 is available with a supply voltage of 3.3 V, 5 V, or 12 VDC and a choice of CMOS or sine wave output compatibility, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. However, due to the flexible nature of the design, variations to suit almost any application can be developed to meet individual customer requirements.

Housed in a 36 mm x 26.5 mm package with a height of only 10 mm, the OS936-10 incorporates an electronic trim option of ±0.5 ppm minimum (2.25 ±2.25 VDC). Fully RoHS compliant, the OS936-10 series meets vibration, mechanical, and thermal shock to MIL standard 202F.
