New Product Discoveries - Qoitech's Power Mgmt Tool and Melexis' Infrared Image Sensor

In the Internet of Things (IoT), battery power is of utmost importance. IoT designers need to ensure their products can operate for weeks, months, even years without draining their batteries. Optimizing power usage can be a tough situation for engineers, particularly if they have little to no experience with power management.

Qoitech understands this predicament and has developed a DC Power Analyzer and Datalogger called the Otii. The Otii was created specifically with IoT energy optimization in mind. By operating your product with the Otii you are able to track power usage with changes in hardware or software and what effect they have had on power consumption. The Otii has a sample rate of 4 ksps with an output current of 0.5 µA to 5 A, enabling you to see exactly how your product operates in relation to power consumption. Simply install the associated software on your PC, hookup your IoT (or other) design and you’re on your way to making sure your design operates in the sweet spot for power consumption and battery size.

Most IoT designs require some type of sensing element. Sticking with the IoT theme, the next item I have is a digital infrared sensor from Melexis. The MLX90640 is a 2D infrared image sensor (32 x 24 pixels) in a four-pin package. Data is read through an I²C interface, making initial hardware setup a breeze. This product is perfect for home security, HVAC (heating and cooling), and general monitoring applications.

Thanks for watching!
