Soft Start Mode is a very important feature for small geometry high performance 90nm / 65nm processors. It is essential to minimize input inrush current during startup, otherwise other devices hanging off the upstream power source can be effected. The resultant high inrush current can put the entire system in an unstable, unreliable status. Therefore, power supplies for high-end processors must minimize inrush current during startup. This slide shows how the ADP210x soft start dramatically lowers inrush current.
