Programming the compensation components is required for correct loop response for a particular inductor, input/output capacitors, output voltage combination, and total current required. One easy way to choose correct components is through the use of the table shown here. For example, given the need for a 1A load with a Vout=1.2V - the correct components to choose would be CIN1=10uF, CIN2=10uF, COUT=22+22+4.7uF, L=1.5uH, Rcomp=140kΩ, and Ccomp=68pF.
