Usually, a solution will be based on RF PCB engineering expertise, schedule, and product volume. The LMX9838 is the most logical choice for those applications that are low volume, or where RF expertise is not available. However, there is the possibility a PCB design may need to be re-laid out to fix RF issues. This can add risk in the form of time and cost. In high enough volume and where RF PCB layout expertise is available, the LMX9830 can offer a considerable savings. However, the designer must still carry out the Bluetooth RF, FCC, IC and CE certification themselves.
